WHAT'S   NEW

July 28, 2010 - I finally got some good images of my latest finished pieces. First, as a break from clay, I finished some old miniatures, and added bases. These were made from polymer clay, epoxy putty, and other bits and pieces found around the studio; all made from scratch. Note the quarter for size reference.

This one is "La Befana", from the Italian myth about a good witch who comes in early January (Feast of the Epiphany), and leaves gifts for all the children. She also is responsible for both bestowing and removing "The Evil Eye" throughout the year.

The second mini-diorama is of the god Pan, half-man, half-goat. He loves wine, women, and song... but especially women!

I've also finised my "Happy Buddha" sculpt, and you can now find him on the SCULPTURE Page.

July 18, 2010

We are well into the doldrums of summer now. I have made more "Whimsical Birds", and a flock of them are now on display at The Bay View Gallery in Saco, Maine, and on my Sculpture Page.

We are also getting ready for a BIG SHOW on the shore of Sebago Lake, in Naples Maine on July 31.

"The Buddha" (see below) is finished, and will show up on my Sculpture Page as soon as I have a few good images.

The other really new thing, is that I am making reproductions of ancient ceramic oil lamps. Some of these are from about 2500 BCE, and even predate the invention of the potters wheel. My lamps are hand-made from high-fire clay, are all different, burn olive oil, and are made to be held in the hand. Look for a new page here soon, devoted to these lamps. I will also have some to show in Naples later this month.

I finally got back into gear, made some new stuff, and took photos of my recent work. The finished pieces are on the Sculpture Page. I am also finishing up a "Happy Buddha" sculpture in porcelain clay, and I want to show you how it looks. He 'sits' about 10" tall, and will now be touched up a bit, and then fired and finished.

It's been creatively quiet around here lately. Most everything was on hold while we traveled to Kauai, Hawaii and Chicago for two weeks. It was a wonderful vacation. The robot and model projects are momentarily in limbo. I have done some ceramics work, mostly small bird sculpture (see my Sculpture Page). Several of these sold at a recent charity show (100 Birds For Haiti) at the Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk. Dorinne and I have a big show coming up in Naples, Maine on July 31. More about this at Naples for the Arts.

March 27, 2010:

News on the Robotics page. Today I uploaded three videos of the 3-leg unit (one side of the "Crab-Bot"). These videos show the 3 legs operating in coordination, one part of the eventual 6-leg "alternating tripod" gait. This unit is driven by a single servo-motor, and the inter-limb coordination is entirely mechanical, with drive rods and cams. Take a look HERE !

March 16, 2010:

Well, I've re-designed my web site again, as you can plainly see. I really like the brighter, crisper look, and the use of "HTML Tables" has helped to organize it better. Other than that, I've been working primarily in two areas lately... Sculpture and Robotics.

In the Sculpture Page, you will see that I've gone off on a "bird" tangent. I got started making these whimsical bird forms in porcelain, and I just couldn't stop. Now I have over 2 dozen pieces, which I hope to sell at a Show on July 31, in Naples, Maine. I really like the smooth, white, glossy finish on these guys.

My Robotics work is also making some progress. I am still working on my "Crab-Bot" and, after finally ceating a working model of one leg, moving (see Robotics Page ). I have now built a 3-leg model (1 sude of the crab) with proper coordination, and will have a movie of this latest version uploaded soon.

My sculpture is still on display at Freeport Square Gallery, 140 Main St., Freeport, ME
and, of course, it can also be seen
In My Studio (by appointment, contact information below.)
