Here's my Newest Sculpture
More can be seen in my Online Gallery

THE HAPPY BUDDHA: This is my impression of what a Buddha should look like. I don't know how he
maintains this physique begging for food with a tiny bowl. I guess it all depends on your good attitude, compassion,
and loving kindness. High-Fired Porcelain clay, with acrylic highlights on the robe. He sits about a foot tall.  2010

HERMIT-CRAB-MAN: A cross between crustacean and homosapiens! A super-hero who helps to protect
the environment of the undersea world. He's made from Hi-fire Porcelain clay,
and finished with glazes and stains. He's about a foot long, overall.  2009

"THE OLD BARN DOORS": A series of wall hangings, depicting sections from an old barn door. They
were made entirely from low-fire terracotta clay, and colored with a mix of stains, washes, and acrylics.  2010

Barn Door 1

 Barn Door #2

WORKING HANDS: A series of "self portraits", done in a variety of poses. Each pose has an Italian name
(from L to R, "Uno", "Tre", "Veni Qui", "Bellisima", "Rabia", and "La Terra")  2011

FINALLY... The Artist's Statement
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."

Although I have spent my professional career as a Scientist and Physiology Professor in several Universities, I have always had
a strong interest in the arts. Now, in retirement here on the coast of Maine, I have been free to pursue this long-time passion, as a sculptor.
After several workshops and classes, I have begun to develop a direction and focus for my work;
;  I"Sculptural interpretation of biological
forms, from realism to stylized expression".

I work entirely in natural earth clays, and try not to obscure the form of a piece with complex coloring or glazes. Most recently, I have
been working in Terracotta and Porcelain Clay, which I find are ideal for my figurative work.
